AWS expands free Kiro AI agent access to 132 universities with $500M commitment

AWS expanded its Kiro Students tier to 132 universities across 16 countries, offering eligible students a full year of free Kiro access with 1,000 credits per month and no credit card required. VP Swami Sivasubramanian said students had been asking when Kiro would reach their campuses since the first student pricing launched earlier in the year, and the expansion is backed by an AWS commitment of more than $500 million toward student cloud and AI training.

The strategic logic is classic developer-ecosystem seeding: get an agentic coding tool into students' hands before their first job, and you shape which platform they reach for professionally.
