Anthropic S-1 figures show $80.7B first-half net loss ahead of November IPO

According to WSJ, Reuters and Fortune reporting on the filing, the headline loss is overwhelmingly accounting-driven. About $72B of the $80.7B reflects charges on convertible instruments, which typically swell when a company's valuation soars, rather than operating burn. Even so, the gap between the headline loss and the revenue base will be the first number public-market investors fixate on.
The revenue trajectory is the bull case. $16.3B in the first half was followed by $16.8B in Q3 alone, a 45% sequential jump, which implies a run rate well above $60B. That growth coincides with Claude Opus 5.5, which Anthropic says leads agentic coding while costing roughly 40% less to run than Opus 5.
A November listing near $2T would make Anthropic one of the largest IPOs ever. It would also set a public benchmark against which OpenAI's private valuation gets judged. The filing also arrives alongside Anthropic's annual Public Benefit Report, which highlights the tension between PBC governance and public-market expectations.
Watch for the cleaned-up operating loss once convertible charges are stripped out, for gross margin on inference, and for how much of revenue depends on a handful of cloud partners. Those are the questions an S-1 roadshow will face.
