Amazon Quick Microsoft 365 extensions reach general availability

AWS announced general availability of Amazon Quick extensions for Microsoft 365 — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook — putting agentic AI directly inside the productivity apps enterprises already use. The extensions provide connected data access and agentic document editing, handling tasks like redlining documents, building financial models, creating presentation decks, and managing Outlook inboxes without the user leaving their familiar environment.

The strategic audacity is notable: AWS is embedding its AI assistant inside Microsoft's own applications, competing head-on with Microsoft Copilot on Microsoft's home turf. For enterprises standardized on M365 but invested in AWS data and Bedrock models, Amazon Quick offers a way to bring AWS-governed AI to Office documents rather than adopting Copilot.

This is part of a busy AWS week that also saw Oracle AI Database@AWS expand to 22 regions, OpenAI's GPT-5.4/5.5/5.6 models integrated into Bedrock for web search, Aurora Serverless gain faster scaling for agentic workloads, and Lambda public preview runtimes ship — a coordinated push to make AWS the substrate for enterprise agents.

The competitive risk is platform friction: Microsoft controls the M365 add-in ecosystem and could constrain or de-prioritize a rival's deep integration, and data-governance teams may balk at routing document contents through AWS from inside Office. Still, GA status (versus the earlier preview) signals AWS is confident enough to support it at enterprise scale.
