Web Answer goes GA on Bedrock AgentCore at $10 per 1,000 calls

Web Answer is AWS's answer to a problem every agent team hits: grounding responses in live web data without building and maintaining a bespoke RAG-over-search stack. With this launch, one API call performs multi-step search planning, concurrent retrieval, answer synthesis and citation. The result is a cited answer the agent can use directly.
The tool plugs into AgentCore Gateway, so it appears to an agent as another registered tool alongside internal APIs. Pricing is $10 per 1,000 calls, and it is initially limited to US East (N. Virginia). AWS published a getting-started guide on the Machine Learning blog. Gen Digital has already described building Norton Revamp's AI-curated news feed on AgentCore web search.
Competitively, this puts AWS directly against the grounded-search tools in the OpenAI Responses API, Gemini's Google Search grounding, and specialist providers such as Perplexity, Tavily and Exa. AWS's pitch is consolidation: the agent runtime, gateway, identity, observability and now web grounding all sit inside one billing and IAM boundary. The same week, AWS also added agent-trace ingestion to OpenSearch, which fits the same theme.
The caveats are practical. A single region limits latency-sensitive and data-residency workloads. At $0.01 per call, high-frequency agents could find it costlier than raw search APIs. And because the synthesis is opaque, teams lose control over which sources are ranked and how conflicting results are reconciled. Watch for regional expansion and for published accuracy or citation-quality numbers.
