Samsung commits $1B to KKR-backed Helix AI infrastructure buildout

Samsung is putting money directly into the AI infrastructure layer. Samsung Electronics and five affiliates together committed $1 billion to Helix Digital Infrastructure, a KKR-backed platform. The investment raises Helix's total capital to $11 billion, earmarked for hyperscale data centers, power generation and fiber networks.
The structure is notable. Rather than building data centers under its own brand, Samsung is taking a stake in a dedicated infrastructure vehicle with a private-equity partner. That spreads capital risk while positioning Samsung's memory, networking and power businesses as preferred suppliers to the facilities Helix builds. Power and fiber are the bottlenecks behind many stalled AI buildouts, and that is where the money is going.
The deal fits the week's CapEx theme. Anthropic's prospectus revealed $518B in planned infrastructure spending, and Alibaba targets more than 20GW of cloud power by 2032. Samsung, with a large HBM business and its own foundry, benefits from that spending wave regardless of which model lab wins. The AI-RAN contracts with KT and SK Telecom add a telecom angle, putting AI inference into mobile network infrastructure.
Caveats: $1B is modest next to hyperscaler budgets, and Helix's pipeline and locations are not detailed in the sources. Watch for specific Helix projects, Samsung supply agreements tied to them, and whether this becomes a template for other Korean conglomerates.
