Meta reportedly developing an AI-powered pendant wearable

Per The Information (via Gigazine and TechCrunch), a Meta internal memo outlines ambitious hardware plans including a new AI-powered pendant, with testing planned for sometime in 2027. The device is reportedly based on technology from Limitless, an AI-device startup Meta acquired at the end of 2025; Limitless had built a pendant-shaped gadget that could record and summarize everyday conversations.

The pendant would extend Meta's hardware portfolio beyond its popular Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, where it currently leads the smart-glasses market. It also slots into an intensifying race for dedicated AI form factors: OpenAI is pursuing AI hardware via its acquisition of Jony Ive's startup "io," and reports this week suggest Apple's competing smart glasses are slipping to a 2027 launch with a roughly $500 AI wearable aimed at Meta's Ray-Bans.

The ambient, always-listening pendant category is fraught — prior entrants like the Humane Pin and Rabbit failed to find a market, and recording-and-summarizing wearables raise immediate privacy concerns. Meta's advantage is distribution, an existing wearables supply chain, and Llama models to power on-device features; its liability is a fraught privacy reputation that an always-on conversation recorder will test.

The 2027 timeline means this is early signal, not imminent product.
