Mistral launches Vibe unified agent, Mistral Medium 3.5, and Forge enterprise system

Vibe consolidates Mistral's consumer-and-developer surface into a single agent with a Work Mode for long-running tasks and a Code Mode for remote coding and pull requests, plus a new VS Code extension and updated CLI for project automation. The rebrand from Le Chat signals Mistral's pivot toward agentic productivity rather than a plain chatbot.

Underpinning Vibe is the new Mistral Medium 3.5 model, and the company also launched Forge, a system that lets enterprises build frontier-grade models grounded in their proprietary knowledge — a managed alternative to fine-tuning that targets regulated and data-sensitive customers. Forge workflows are in public preview.

Strategically, Mistral is carving a European, enterprise-sovereignty niche as the frontier race concentrates around US and Chinese labs. The Work/Code agent framing puts Vibe in direct competition with Fable 5, Vibe-style coding agents, and GitHub Copilot, though Medium 3.5 is positioned below the absolute frontier. The bet is that data residency, customization via Forge, and competitive pricing matter more to European enterprises than topping global benchmarks.
