AWS makes OpenAI GPT-6.1 Terra generally available on Amazon Bedrock on launch day

Same-day availability on Bedrock underlines how far the AWS–OpenAI relationship has come. AWS positions Terra as a balance of capability, speed and cost for everyday workloads, emphasizing detailed visual reasoning and accurate computer use.
AWS's Matt Wood framed it around agent economics: each step of an agent task — reading documents, inspecting a screen, acting, checking — adds latency and cost, so improving that balance makes more workflows practical. Bedrock's pricing tiers now include Flex at -50% and Priority at +75%, and AWS published companion guidance on prompt caching for OpenAI models to cut repeated input costs in agent loops.
Competitively, Bedrock is now a broad multi-vendor shelf, hosting OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Moonshot and Zhipu models side by side, a direct contrast to Azure's historically privileged OpenAI access.
Watch whether Bedrock pricing fully matches OpenAI's direct API and how quickly enterprises shift agent workloads to Terra from pricier tiers.
