Gemini hits 25% of global AI traffic as ads loom and I/O nears

Gemini now accounts for 25% of worldwide AI traffic per Similarweb, up from 6% a year ago, with deeper integration into Gmail, Drive, Docs and vehicles. Google has hinted ads are coming to Gemini ahead of Google I/O 2026 (May 19-20). Privacy advocates have flagged the integration as an 'illusion of choice' for opting out.
