Meta rolls out Muse Realtime Avatar video calls to all US users

Previewed at Connect, the avatar layer gives Meta's personal agent a face, synchronizing expressive animation with real-time voice. Meta says Muse crossed 10 million US downloads in its first 40 days.

Developers on dev.to argue that avatar state management and real-time rendering are now baseline expectations for agent products. They worry about disclosure, so avatars don't make commitments their underlying agents can't keep.

The launch competes with OpenAI's and Google's voice modes, adding a visual presence those products lack. Watch for engagement data and for companion-safety scrutiny.
