Siri AI adds five languages in October, but EU users may wait months longer

Apple's Siri AI launched in September with iOS 27 and macOS 27. It offers onscreen awareness and personal-context processing, but only in English. October brings localized support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Upcoming features include Live Rewind and Siri Recap on Apple Watch.
The new wrinkle is Europe. Reports say the EU launch could slip by more than the five-month gap that separated the original Apple Intelligence debut from its EU availability. The reason is regulatory compliance, likely spanning the Digital Markets Act and the EU AI Act. Apple is also reportedly considering nine-figure deals with publishers so Siri can answer questions about current events with licensed news. That is a notable shift toward paying for content rather than scraping it.
Competitively, Siri is chasing assistants with broader language coverage and real-time web grounding. Google's Gemini reaches dozens of languages, and ChatGPT's Dots agents are pitched as persistent personal assistants. Meta's Muse reached 642,000 US daily users in 12 days. Apple's differentiator remains on-device privacy, which it underlined this week by tightening macOS Full Disk Access for AI agents.
The things to watch are whether the European delay becomes a competitive opening for Gemini and Muse on Android, and whether publisher deals actually close. Hands-on reviewers are also still sorting out which Apple Intelligence features are genuinely useful versus demo-ware.
