AWS Brings Claude Opus 4.8 to Bedrock, Launches Native Claude Platform Inside AWS Accounts

AWS on May 28 made Claude Opus 4.8 generally available on Amazon Bedrock with guidance for agentic and production inference, and — more strategically — became the first cloud to host Anthropic's native Claude Platform directly inside customer AWS accounts, with unified IAM, credentials, and billing. That collapses the typical 'Anthropic-via-Bedrock' indirection and lets enterprises run Anthropic's first-party tooling without leaving their AWS perimeter.

AWS also announced Bedrock AgentCore Payments with Coinbase and Stripe, extending agentic infrastructure into real money movement. Swami Sivasubramanian's Agentic Football Cup workshop, posted the same week, signals AWS is trying to make AgentCore the default entry point for developers learning to build agents.

Competitive read: this is a sharp escalation of the Anthropic-AWS alliance directly against Azure-OpenAI, and lands the same week OpenAI launched DeployCo. AWS is also moving on the infrastructure layer — its new Random Network Graph (RNG) datacenter network architecture is engineered for exactly the throughput profile of agentic, multi-step workloads.
