Amazon ECS Gateway launches as managed ingress for ECS services

AI Analysis

AWS has launched Amazon ECS Gateway, a fully managed ingress option for services running on Elastic Container Service. Gateway is an account-level resource. It provisions and manages Application Load Balancers and their supporting resources inside the customer's own account, instead of each service team configuring load balancers by hand.

The model divides responsibilities in a way platform teams will recognize. A central team defines organizational networking standards once on the gateway: listeners, TLS, security posture. Individual services then simply associate with it. Because the ALBs live in the customer's account, teams keep visibility and control rather than handing ingress to an opaque managed layer.

This mirrors patterns Kubernetes users get from ingress controllers and the Gateway API, and narrows a long-standing ergonomics gap between ECS and EKS. It also fits a broader AWS week focused on removing glue code: Lambda Web Functions now run Express, Fastify and Hono apps natively without adapters.

It isn't an AI launch per se, but containerized inference services and agent backends are a fast-growing share of ECS workloads, and simpler ingress lowers the cost of deploying them. Watch for pricing details, support for multiple gateways per account across environments, and migration guidance for teams with hand-built ALB setups.
