Claude gets in-region inference in Seoul and Singapore on Bedrock

On the same day as its India expansion, AWS announced strict in-region inference for Anthropic models in two more Asia-Pacific markets. In Seoul, both Claude Opus 5 and Sonnet 5 are available. In Singapore, only Sonnet 5 is available for now. Unlike cross-Region geographic profiles, in-region inference means the request never leaves the specific Region that is called.

This is the stricter of Bedrock's two residency modes. It trades the elasticity of cross-Region routing for a hard guarantee that data stays in one location. South Korea's financial and public sectors have strict localization rules, and Singapore's MAS guidance pushes regulated firms toward local processing. Single-Region deployment directly addresses both.

The timing matters for Korea in particular. Samsung's AI Forum this week put agentic AI at the center of Korean industry, and local telcos are signing AI-RAN contracts. Anthropic models with local inference give Korean enterprises a frontier option without cross-border data transfer. Naver and domestic LLM providers have long used residency as their competitive moat.

Caveats: capacity in single-Region deployments can be tighter, and throttling during peak demand is a known pain point. As with India, the newest 5.5 models are not yet included. Watch for Sonnet 5.5 regional rollout and any Anthropic-direct regional endpoints beyond Bedrock.
