OpenAI doubles Pro limits, puts ChatGPT and Codex on a shared usage pool

AI Analysis

OpenAI is restructuring how paid users consume their allowance. ChatGPT chats and Codex coding sessions will now draw from the same pool, and Pro limits are being doubled to compensate.

In December, Work features fold into Chat, combining conversation with the Codex coding agent. The Classic desktop app is being retired.

The move mirrors Microsoft, which unified Chat, Cowork, Autopilot and Code inside Copilot.

Developers worry that heavy Codex sessions will drain their chat allowance. Separately, a 437-point HN thread alleges OpenAI is quietly re-enabling training on Codex chats.
