At the same time, NVIDIA is reportedly negotiating to guarantee roughly $250 billion in financing for OpenAI's proposed 10-gigawatt data-center campus in Piketon, Ohio — one of the largest compute-infrastructure commitments ever discussed, and a striking counterpoint to Huang's open-ecosystem advocacy. NVIDIA also pushed AI-safety tooling at Siggraph, releasing self-hosted coding-assistant guidance via NeMo Guardrails and a Synthetic Video Detector NIM tested at 92% accuracy (deemed not yet consumer-ready).
The dual posture — championing open weights while underwriting the largest closed-lab buildout — captures NVIDIA's structural position: it profits regardless of who wins the open-vs-closed war, as long as compute demand compounds.
