OpenAI signs Abu Dhabi deployment deals with ADNOC, G42 and Mubadala

OpenAI signed agreements with three pillars of Abu Dhabi's economy. With ADNOC, the work covers energy; with G42, government and technology; and with Mubadala, investment. Each will deploy OpenAI's frontier models in its operations. Sam Altman met Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince during the visit.
The deals come as OpenAI raises a reported $20 billion round co-led by UAE investors, tying Gulf capital directly to Gulf deployments. The UAE has positioned itself as a hub for AI infrastructure through Stargate-linked projects, and G42 has historically been central to US-approved chip exports to the region.
This is part of a broader pattern of OpenAI raising money and deploying models in the same countries. On the same trip, Altman met senior Samsung executives in Korea to coordinate enterprise infrastructure. TechCrunch separately reported that OpenAI may rebrand its data centers as 'AI compute campuses'.
Things to watch: US export-control conditions on chips going to UAE facilities, and whether the deployments come with data-sovereignty guarantees.
