xAI's blistering release cadence continued as Elon Musk confirmed Grok 4.6 is already in development just two days after Grok 4.5 shipped on July 16. Grok 4.5 runs at 80 transactions per second and scores 29.0% on SWE Marathon, and xAI's roughly twice-weekly update schedule now sets the pace for the industry's version churn.

What's notable is that the fast iteration is translating into real developer loyalty, not just benchmark noise. On r/cursor, one user wrote that Grok 4.5 'rivals Opus in output quality with 5x speed... I switched my primary model from Opus 4.8 after one day' — a striking defection given Anthropic's coding reputation. Others noted GLM 5.2 occasionally outperformed it, so the picture isn't uniform, but the speed-to-quality ratio is winning practical fans.

The release also carries controversy. Security researchers claim Grok Build CLI silently uploads entire project repositories — including deleted history and sensitive commits — to SpaceXAI servers, a serious data-exfiltration concern that dampened enthusiasm. Separately, CursorBench scores for Grok 4.5 are viewed as tainted after an earlier Cursor codebase was reportedly included unintentionally in Grok's training data, muddying the benchmark comparisons.

The competitive read: xAI is trading polish for velocity, shipping incremental capability bumps faster than any rival can respond, and offering them cheaply through xAI's own surfaces and now AWS Bedrock.
