Web Search on Amazon Bedrock lands in AWS GovCloud (US-West)

The server-side Web Search built-in tool on Amazon Bedrock has reached AWS GovCloud (US-West), extending grounded, citation-backed web retrieval to compliance-sensitive public-sector workloads. The tool lets supported OpenAI GPT models cite web sources so users can trace each claim — a meaningful capability for government users who need auditable provenance rather than ungrounded model outputs.

Technically, Web Search runs server-side within AWS boundaries, preserving data privacy and residency requirements that GovCloud customers must satisfy. It supports models including GPT-5.4, GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-5.6 Luna, and complements Bedrock's broader agentic tooling — prompt caching, Codex with OIDC authentication, and CloudWatch usage monitoring.

The launch is part of a steady drumbeat of Bedrock GovCloud enhancements this week, alongside the six-model aggregation expansion and Australian regional access for GPT-5.6. Grounding with traceable citations directly addresses the AI-citation integrity concerns that have surfaced in developer forums, where sourcing transparency of AI answers has drawn scrutiny.
