Claude gets in-country inference in India through Amazon Bedrock

AI Analysis

Anthropic's Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 4.5 now offer in-country inference in India on Amazon Bedrock. Requests sent to the India endpoint are processed locally and data does not leave the country.

Anthropic India managing director Irina Ghose said the launch fulfills a commitment made in August. It targets Indian banks, government bodies and enterprises bound by data-localization rules.

This is part of a broader data-residency push this week: Claude 5.5 in GovCloud, Claude for Government on FedRAMP High, and AWS's sovereignty guidance.

Note the India offering covers the 5-generation models, not the newer 5.5 line. Watch whether 5.5 follows and how pricing compares to global endpoints.
