Anthropic acquires Stainless, the SDK platform powering OpenAI, Google and Cloudflare APIs

Stainless automates the generation, testing, and maintenance of typed client libraries (Python, TypeScript, Go, etc.) directly from OpenAPI specs, plus MCP server scaffolding. Anthropic's official statement positions it as continuity — Stainless will keep serving existing customers — but the strategic implications are heavy: every time OpenAI ships a new SDK, an Anthropic-owned platform processes the spec. Conflict-of-interest firewalls will need to be visible and credible.

The acquisition tightens Anthropic's developer stack to a degree no other lab matches: Claude Code (v2.1.144 also shipped this week with /resume for background sessions), the MCP standard, and now the SDK pipeline. Anthropic separately scored a Ramp AI Index milestone this week — first time beating OpenAI on business adoption — which Claude Code lead Boris Cherny amplified.
