Samsung AI Forum 2026 puts the 'agentic shift' at the center of chipmaking

Samsung's annual AI Forum carried a theme that matches the week's industry mood: agents moving from demos to operations. Co-CEO Jun Young-hyun said agentic AI is running inside Samsung's semiconductor fabs, chip-architecture design workflows and enterprise logistics. The Device Solutions (DS) division presented case studies of AI applied to semiconductor design and manufacturing.

Samsung also pointed to expanded research partnerships with OpenAI and AWS, and to compact neural models designed for physical robotics. That fits a broader push to put on-device and edge intelligence into its hardware lineup.

The forum lands in a week dominated by agent news. OpenAI showed always-on Dots agents at DevDay, AWS and OpenAI launched Bedrock Managed Agents, and NVIDIA released an agent-safety stack. Samsung's angle is different: it is less a platform vendor than a large industrial user showing agents in production at scale. For chipmakers, AI-assisted design and yield optimization can mean real money, and Samsung is under pressure to close its foundry and HBM gap with TSMC and SK hynix.

Caveat: forum keynotes rarely come with hard metrics, and the sources give no numbers on yield gains or cost savings. Watch for quantified results from the DS case studies, and for whether the OpenAI partnership turns into a concrete product such as on-device models in Galaxy hardware.
