xAI widens Grok 4.7 access and launches always-on Grok Bot cloud agents

Grok Bot is xAI's entry into always-on agents: each instance lives in an isolated cloud runtime equipped with a terminal and a browser, allowing it to run long-lived tasks rather than single chat turns. It arrives alongside broader availability of Grok 4.7, whose 500K-token context window and $2/$6 per-million-token pricing put it at the aggressive end of frontier API pricing.
The tiering is deliberate. Free users get lightweight text interaction, while advanced multimodal capabilities and multi-agent orchestration require paid plans. Earlier in the week xAI also moved its server-side tools — web_search, x_search and code_execution — to general availability and auto-routed the retired grok-voice-transcribe-1.0 to version 2.0, and Oracle added Grok 4.6 and 4.7 to OCI Enterprise AI. Together they show xAI building out the agent platform plumbing competitors already ship.
Competitively, Grok Bot squares up against Meta's Muse, Google's universal Gemini agent and OpenAI's agent products. Analysts note Grok Bot and Muse already offer business tiers that Apple's Siri lacks.
The caveat is timing: persistent agents with terminal and browser access are exactly the class of system under scrutiny this week after Anthropic's live-web eval incidents and criticism of Muse's sandbox. How xAI scopes Grok Bot's permissions and isolation will matter more than its context window.
