Meta Launches 'Meta One' Subscription and Details MTIA 450 Chip Rollout

Meta rolled out Meta One, a consumer subscription bundling more than 50 premium features across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The package centers on Meta's AI capabilities — Muse image and video generation and Restyle editing — offered in a Core tier at $7.99 and a Premium tier at $19.99. Meta reported the subscription already drew 15 million signups, a fast start that signals real consumer appetite for bundled AI features inside apps people already use daily.
The subscription is Meta's answer to the monetization question that has dogged its heavy AI spending: how to turn Muse and Llama investment into recurring revenue rather than just ad-supported engagement. Bundling generative features into a paid tier across its three-billion-user app family is a distribution advantage no standalone AI product can match.
Separately, Meta detailed its custom-silicon roadmap: the third-generation MTIA 450 (codenamed Arke) will deploy in the first half of 2027, with successor MTIA 500 (Astrid) reaching production by end of 2027. The in-house chips are Meta's bid to cut its NVIDIA dependence and control inference costs at massive scale — a strategic parallel to Samsung's Euclyd investment and the industry-wide push for GPU alternatives.
The skeptical context: Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth reportedly called Llama 4 a disappointment while touting the upcoming Muse model, and analyst Daniel Newman praised Zuckerberg for prioritizing Muse AI safety despite investor pressure. That mixed internal signal — a disappointing prior model, a promising next one, and a fresh consumer subscription — makes Meta One a test of whether Meta can convert scale into AI revenue. Watch whether the 15M signups convert to paying retention and whether MTIA 450 materially reduces Meta's inference costs on schedule.
