Grok Bot 0.77 places autonomous phone calls and handles email and X DMs

AI Analysis

xAI is moving Grok from chat to errands. Version 0.77 of Grok Bot can dial a business, sit on hold, work through phone-tree menus and return a summary of the call, putting xAI directly into the voice-agent market. The same release extends the bot to triage email and X direct messages, so it acts as a communications agent across channels.

The pace is part of the pitch: xAI says it ships more than 100 Grok features and fixes every week. Alongside the bot, it launched a Super Intelligence Partner Network with 130+ early-access companies, an enterprise go-to-market channel xAI has lacked compared with OpenAI and Anthropic.

Competitively, developers immediately framed this as a challenge to OpenAI's realtime voice agents and to ElevenLabs' conversational stack. Phone automation is a well-known demo category, though, and the hard problems are reliability on hold-music edge cases, consent and disclosure laws for AI callers, and fraud abuse. It also complements xAI's coding push: Grok 4.7, released September 21 with a larger base model at the same price, has been integrated into Cursor and other IDEs.

Watch for disclosure behavior (does the bot identify itself as AI on calls?), regional availability given state-level robocall rules, and whether the partner network names marquee customers.
