OpenAI launched Astra for Law, a GPT-6 Astra configuration purpose-built for legal professionals, positioned to accelerate law-firm workflows across research, drafting, and document management. President Greg Brockman described it as 'tools and skills to radically accelerate law firms,' highlighting data privacy as a core feature alongside 26 partner-built plugins and 47 community plugins — a legal-specific ecosystem spanning document management (iManage), practice tools (Intapp), legal search (DeepJudge), and research (Thomson Reuters). Access is initially gated through a Trusted Access Program, delivered via ChatGPT and Codex.

The product bundles a specialized legal search index with the plugin ecosystem and enterprise-grade privacy and governance controls — the table-stakes requirements for regulated legal buyers wary of confidentiality and hallucination risk.
