AWS details Claude Code on Bedrock GovCloud with Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5

AWS published deployment guidance for running Anthropic's Claude Code against Claude Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 on Amazon Bedrock in the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions. Opus 5.5 reached GovCloud on September 22 and Sonnet 5.5 on September 28.
The architecture defaults to zero data retention and describes compliance pathways for DoD Impact Levels 4 and 5, supporting both the Bedrock Guardrails runtime APIs and the bedrock-mantle inference surface with Zero Operator Access. The target is regulated and ITAR workloads where code and data must stay in sovereign US infrastructure.
This pairs with Anthropic's own Claude for Government GA on FedRAMP High, giving public-sector buyers two routes to Claude. Data residency is a theme this week: Claude also gained in-country inference in India on Bedrock, and AWS launched a Digital Sovereignty Lens.
The complication is the reported Pentagon halt on Anthropic tools. Defense integrators may value the GovCloud path, but adoption depends on whether the DoD rift extends to contractors.
