OpenAI reportedly building an AI-first phone with MediaTek and Qualcomm

Per analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, OpenAI is planning a smartphone with chips from MediaTek and Qualcomm and manufacturing by Luxshare, mass production possibly starting in H1 2027 and up to 30M units shipped over two years. The form factor reportedly replaces the app grid with an agent task stream.
