Meta Launches Muse Code Agent on Spark 1.2 to Rival OpenAI and Anthropic

Meta launched Muse Code in beta, its first AI coding agent, which can plan code changes, write software, and validate results end-to-end. It's paired with an updated coding-focused model, Muse Spark 1.2, priced at $1.25/$4.25 per million tokens — aggressive pricing aimed squarely at Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's coding tools. Meta compares Spark 1.2 to high-powered models like Opus 5, and per an @AIatMeta repost, Muse Spark 1.2 ties for third place as a frontier model for game development, matching GPT-5.6-Sol.

The launch marks Meta's serious entry into one of AI's fastest-growing markets. Coding agents have become the flagship monetization category for frontier labs, and Meta — historically strong in open models but behind on agentic products — is now chasing incumbents with a vertically integrated model-plus-agent offering.

The competitive context is crowded: Anthropic's Claude Code is the market leader (and just made auto mode default), OpenAI is pushing ChatGPT Work and coding agents, and Alibaba's Qwen3.8-Max just topped the agentic benchmark index.
