Apple confirms Gemini-powered Siri in iOS 27 with three-tier AI architecture for September launch

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian confirmed at Google Cloud Next 2026 that Gemini technology will power next-generation Apple Foundation Models, with Apple's revamped Siri arriving in iOS 27 in September 2026. The architecture uses a three-tier system: on-device processing for simple queries, Private Cloud Compute for moderate complexity, and Gemini 3 on Apple's secure infrastructure for world-knowledge requests. Apple is also separately pursuing an iOS 27 'Extensions' framework allowing ChatGPT, Claude, and other third-party AI chatbots to plug directly into Siri.
