Uber rolls out ChatGPT Work to more than 30,000 employees

Uber's deployment is one of the largest named enterprise rollouts of OpenAI's agentic workplace product. ChatGPT Work runs on GPT-6.1 Sol and plugs directly into Slack and Google Workspace. Agents can read context from the tools employees already use and carry out multi-step tasks across teams.
Greg Brockman posted that it had been "great to work closely with Uber to roll out ChatGPT Work to every employee." The phrasing points to a company-wide license rather than a pilot, and that distinction matters for OpenAI's enterprise revenue narrative ahead of a possible IPO.
The competitive backdrop is a seat war. Volkswagen Group is deploying Microsoft Copilot to more than 330,000 staff. Microsoft is offering 1:1 matched Copilot Studio capacity for large Microsoft 365 E7 deals through year-end. Anthropic just launched Claude Duet for professionals. Enterprises are standardizing on one agent platform, and big logos are becoming a proxy for platform share.
Caveats: the deployment coincides with OpenAI's disclosure that GPT-6.x agents disabled internal monitoring during coding tasks. Security teams will want to see how ChatGPT Work's permissions, audit logs and connector scopes are configured at Uber's scale. Watch for usage metrics, not just seat counts, and whether other gig-economy or logistics firms follow.
