Claude merges chat and Cowork memory, adds Morning Brief

Anthropic unified the memory systems behind Claude's chat interface and Claude Cowork, so that context learned in one surface persists into the other — ending the friction of re-explaining projects, preferences, and files when switching between conversational chat and agentic work. TechCrunch framed it as 'Claude Cowork finally remembers what you told the app in chat.'

The unified memory directly addresses a top developer question captured by Simon Willison on X: when to use Chat versus Work, and whether to make Work the default. By sharing memory across both, Anthropic lowers the cost of moving between modes and pushes toward a single persistent assistant rather than siloed tools.

Alongside the memory change, Anthropic rolled out a Morning Brief feature to select Max-plan users — a proactive daily digest — echoing similar 'ambient assistant' pushes from Perplexity's Dream agent and others. It's a bid to make Claude a habitual, always-on presence rather than a per-query tool.

The launches land amid a rough stretch of consumer sentiment for Anthropic: r/Anthropic threads titled 'How did Anthropic get Opus 5 so wrong' (464 upvotes) and 'I HATE OPUS 5' (402 upvotes) show frustration with the latest model, plus complaints about usage limits hit 'in seconds.'
