Anthropic folds Claude into one interface, launches Docs and Slides

Anthropic combined its previously separate Chat and Cowork experiences — plus its Claude Design visual tool — into one interface where Claude automatically determines and deploys the right capability rather than forcing users to pick an entry point first. Alongside the consolidation it shipped Docs and Slides, extending Claude from chat and coding into direct document and presentation output.

Claude Code lead Boris Cherny framed the arc (1,569 likes): 'Claude Code showed that AI could do real work, not just answer questions... Cowork proved knowledge workers could do the same: hand Claude the brief, come back to finished work.' The unification is explicitly a bet that a single general-agent surface beats a menu of specialized tools — Simon Willison noted 'everyone's racing to establish themselves as a general agent now,' echoing OpenAI renaming its Codex desktop app to ChatGPT.

Competitively this puts Claude squarely against Microsoft Copilot's Office integration and Google's Gemini-in-Workspace, but without Anthropic owning a productivity suite of its own — Docs and Slides are native Claude artifacts rather than plugins into existing files. Developers welcomed the reduced context-switching, though some flagged that Claude Code's parallel-projects feature may drain usage plans faster than expected. The question is whether standalone AI-native documents can pull knowledge workers away from entrenched Office and Google formats, or whether they become throwaway drafts exported elsewhere.
